Drs. Harwell, Sr. and Jr. are both Board Certified in Orthodontics and members of numerous dental and orthodontic professional societies, including the American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists. They support the American Association of Orthodontics Foundation, which is involved in the continued research and promotion of the specialty.
In the profession of orthodontics, Drs. Harwell and Harwell are actively involved in the research and development of new orthodontic products and techniques to serve their patients better. Dr. Harwell, Jr. also lectures to groups on modern orthodontic techniques and products throughout the country.
Dr. Harwell, Sr.
Dr. Harwell, Sr. grew up in Houston, TX. He attended the University of Texas for his predental work and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas – Houston Dental Branch. After school, he and his wife, Patricia, moved to Arizona to serve the Navajo Nation as a dental officer in the Public Health Service.
After his service, Dr. Harwell, Sr. practiced general dentistry in San Antonio before returning to Houston to complete his orthodontic residency. He received a Certificate of Orthodontics and a Master’s of Science degree in 1973.
He began his orthodontic career in Houston before moving to Amarillo in 1975.
He and his wife have one son, who has practiced orthodontics with him since 1998, and two daughters. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, photography, fishing and fly fishing. He also volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America.
Dr. Anthony Harwell, Jr.
"Dr. Anthony" was raised in Amarillo, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1988. He attended Vanderbilt University, where he received his Bachelor’s of Arts in Mathematics. His Doctor of Dental Surgery degree was awarded from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX. After graduation, Dr. Anthony did his orthodontic residency at the University of Texas – Houston Dental Branch, where he earned a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, as well as a Master’s of Science degree.
Dr. Harwell, Jr. and his wife, Stacey, moved to Amarillo in the summer of 1998 to join the family practice. They have two children, Tripp and Jackson.
His favorite pastimes include hunting, fishing, playing golf and tennis, snow skiing and coaching his kids’ teams. To give back to the community, he also supports the Cancer Society and the Children’s Home.
